VFW Memorial Honor Guard

Harris_Presenting_Volley_Casings.jpgThe VFW Memorial Honor Guard began operations in 1985 and has performed military honors at over 4800 funerals.

We currently average between 125 - 135 funerals each year. In addition, we perform approximately 25 Color Guard missions each year for schools, churches, civic events, parades, public events, etc.

We primarily travel and work five counties but on occasion, when called, we have traveled East to

Raleigh, North to Mt. Airy, South to Lexington, and West to Western Carolina State Veteran Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.

The Honor Guard can be contacted through any funeral service in the Triad area.

We are all unpaid volunteers who depend on donations from the families we serve, friends, churches, and funeral homes to defray our operational expenses.

The VFW Memorial Honor Guard is comprised of veterans from two VFW Posts located in Advance, and Clemmons, with the headquarters for the honor guard at VFW Post 9010 in Clemmons.

We have members from the four main branches of the military. Seventeen members are currently active to perform their individual assignments for military honor missions. Additionally, the Honor Guard is supported by four members of the American Legion Post in Lewisville who are classified

as "in training". The ideal number of personnel for a full military honors funeral is thirteen without having to perform double duty by some members.

We very seldom have the "luxury" of that headcount available at any specific funeral.  We usually work with two or three active members of the military branch in which the deceased veteran served in order to perform a higher quality of military honors.
